I'm also using Dreamwidth to post regularly about my personal life and an occasional set of photos from my digital library. Only the music-related posts are public.

What a lot of people do is write a single public post with a far-future date, explaining what the journal is for and that people should ask for access. Then you don't have to keep changing settings on your older posts.
